Simone & Bart in Canada

Tja daar zit je dan je eerste verjaardag als inwoner van Canada! Vanochtend om 07.00 uur door Bart gewekt met een echt canadees kado: klompen om mee in de tuin te werken. Ook wel garden clogs genoemd. En dit zijn niet de klompen die jullie kennen vanuit Nederland maar van die plastic instappers met een bandje achter je hak (bandje kan ook naar voren geklapt worden zodat je er echt zo in kunt stappen, ziet er iets minder degelijk uit). Elke canadees heeft ze en ik dus nu ook! Knalblauwe! Eigenlijk te lelijk voor woorden maar ze schijnen erg handig en prima voor je voeten te zijn...... En ja de wondjes op mijn voeten zijn van de muggenbulten, wat zijn die beesten hier agressief zeg. Net met nederland gebeld en van ma en oma te horen gekregen dat ik mijn cadeaus maar op moeten komen halen! Ze kunnen ook worden opgestuurd hoor! Lees meer

Gisteren hebben wij onze PR cards per post mogen ontvangen zodat we nu niet alleen een papieren vodje hebben wat zegt dat wij officieel inwoner van Canada zijn maar ook een echt pasje met je pasfoto er op. Al met al is dat wel snel gegaan want we hebben ze binnen 3,5 week in huis. Ook het rijbewijs is hier een pasje zelfs je SIN (zeg maar sofi nummer) krijg je hier op een pasje en uiteraard je ziektekostenverzekering voorziet je ook van een pasje maar deze hebben we nog niet. Kortom veel plastic in je portemonnee. En dan hebben we ons nog niet eens aangemeld bij alle winkels voor korting, sparen ed. Wel makkelijk want die pasjes passen tenminste makkelijk in je portemonnee. Je hebt alleen 2 portemonnees nodig gezien de hoeveelheid passen die je straks ter beschikking hebt. Wat hier wel heel lachwekkend is dat iedereen hier alles met cheques betaalt. Ik dacht dat dat niet meer bestond! Toen wij een chequeboek moesten aanvragen bij de bank vroeg de medewerkster of ik er 100, 200 of meer wou hebben..... Ik dacht 25 is wel genoeg maar in de eerste week dat ik ze had heb ik er al 7 uitgeschreven! Hier hebben ze dat zelfs vaak liever dan cashgeld dus ik ben blij dat ik er 150 heb!

Bart is ondertussen hard aan het werk zoals jullie op bijgaande foto’s kunnen zien (Indy moet hem af en toe een beetje helpen). Hij heeft zijn eerste stukken al ingeleverd en voor een nieuwe opdracht is hij vandaag mee naar een autoveiling in Calgary. Hij is bezig met een verhaal over booming Alberta en interviewt daarvoor verschillende Nederlandse ondernemers die in Nederland ondernemer waren en nu hier in Canada ook weer. Vandaag is hij op pad met Patrick bij wie wij onze auto hebben gekocht.om zijn verhaal op papier te zetten.

Stand van zaken met betrekking tot onze huizenjacht. Allereerst bedankt voor jullie adviezen en tips en de hartjes onder de riem. Wij hebben besloten “rustig” verder te kijken en hopen dat iets van onze gading ons pad kruist. De makelaar is nog bezig met een paar huizen voor ons en wie weet zit daar iets tussen.

Het weer is hier nog steeds schitterend, gelukkig niet zo warm als in Nederland en s’avonds koelt het flink af. We hebben vorige week wel een hagelbui gehad met stenen zo groot als knikkers maar dat is normaal hier want er valt zelfs af en toe sneeuw in de zomer....Voor de komende week wordt er alleen maar goed weer voorspeld. Zo tussen de 25 en 30 graden tot het volgende weekend.
